Wolf Range Error Code E 46

E 46 indicates an RS485 hardware error on the primary communication bus inside the range. RS485 is the internal serial data network that allows the main control board to communicate with other electronic modules. This fault is not displayed during normal operation and is only visible in the options diagnostic menu. It can stem from a power transient, a loose wiring connection, or a failing control board.

Because E 46 does not appear on the display during normal use, the range may continue to operate, but an active RS485 communication fault means the control system is not functioning with full reliability. Using the range with an unresolved communication hardware fault is not recommended for extended periods, as it may affect the behavior of connected modules or options. Having a technician diagnose the fault promptly is the safest course of action.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If only a wiring harness connection needs to be reseated or a short wire section replaced, costs are primarily for labor and may range from roughly 100 to 200 dollars. If the primary control board requires replacement, parts and labor combined can range from several hundred to over a thousand dollars depending on the specific model and regional labor rates.
