What EAB means on a AEG washer
The EAB error code on an AEG washer indicates that the triac controlling the DSP (Digital Signal Processor or drive signal processing circuit) has been detected as defective. A triac is a bidirectional semiconductor switching device used in appliance control boards to regulate power delivery to motors and other high-current components. When this triac fails, the control electronics lose the ability to properly switch or regulate the relevant circuit, triggering the EAB fault.
Triac failures typically occur due to excessive current draw, voltage spikes, or heat buildup on the control board. A shorted triac can cause the circuit to remain permanently on or off, preventing normal wash cycle operation. In some cases, a connected load such as the motor or pump drawing more current than the triac is rated for will cause it to fail. The fault is detected internally by the control electronics, which monitor the triac's switching behavior and flag an EAB code when behavior falls outside expected parameters.
Because the triac is a component soldered directly onto the main control board (PCB), the standard corrective action is full replacement of the electronic control unit rather than attempting component-level repair. This is the recommended first diagnostic step. There is no sensor to test or wiring harness to inspect as the primary resolution path. If a technician has component-level soldering skills, the individual triac could theoretically be replaced, but board replacement is the standard and most reliable approach.

Common causes of EAB
- 01
Failed triac on the main control board
Part replacementThe triac component on the PCB has shorted or burned out, which is the direct cause of the EAB fault. This is typically visible as a scorched or discolored component on the board.
- 02
Voltage spike or power surge damage
Part replacementA surge in the household power supply can overstress semiconductor components like triacs, causing immediate or progressive failure. Check if the error appeared after a power outage or surge event.
- 03
Overheating of the control board
Part replacementProlonged operation in high-temperature environments or poor ventilation around the control electronics can degrade triac performance over time and lead to failure.
- 04
Excessive current draw from a connected load
Part replacementIf the motor or another component connected to this triac circuit was drawing abnormally high current, it could have caused the triac to fail from overcurrent stress.
