What F1-1 means on a Amana oven
The F1-1 error code on an Amana oven indicates an over-temperature condition detected while the oven is in a cooking cycle. This means the oven control board has received a signal from the oven temperature sensor (also called the RTD sensor or oven probe) suggesting the cavity temperature has exceeded safe operating limits. The control monitors incoming resistance values from the sensor and compares them against expected ranges. When the temperature reads abnormally high, F1-1 is triggered as a protective fault.
The most common source of this fault is a faulty oven temperature sensor or a wiring problem between the sensor and the control board. A damaged sensor can send incorrect resistance readings that the board interprets as runaway heat. Similarly, pinched, shorted, or corroded wiring in the sensor circuit can produce erroneous voltage or resistance values. Before condemning the control board, the sensor and its wiring harness should always be inspected and tested first.
If the sensor and wiring check out within specification, the electronic oven control (EOC) board itself is likely at fault. The control board processes sensor input and manages the bake and broil relay circuits. A failing board may misread incoming sensor data or incorrectly energize heating elements, causing actual or perceived over-temperature events. Replacing the control board is the final step in the diagnostic sequence once the sensor circuit has been ruled out.

Common causes of F1-1
- 01
Faulty oven temperature sensor
Part replacementThe RTD temperature sensor can fail and send incorrect resistance readings to the control board, making the oven appear to be overheating even when it is not. Test the sensor for proper resistance at room temperature and check for visible damage or corrosion at the connector.
- 02
Damaged or shorted sensor wiring
Wiring / connectionWiring between the temperature sensor and the control board can become pinched, melted, or corroded, causing erroneous signals that trigger the F1-1 fault. Inspect the full wiring harness from the sensor probe to the control board for any signs of heat damage or bare wires.
- 03
Loose or corroded sensor connector
Wiring / connectionA poor connection at the sensor harness plug can create intermittent or incorrect resistance readings. Disconnect and reseat the sensor connector, and inspect the terminals for oxidation or bent pins.
- 04
Actual oven over-temperature condition
Part replacementIf a heating element relay on the control board is stuck closed, the oven can genuinely overheat and trigger F1-1. Check whether the bake or broil element remains energized after the oven is turned off.
- 05
Failed electronic oven control board
Part replacementIf the sensor and all wiring test good, the control board itself may be misreading sensor input or improperly controlling the heating circuit. Replacing the control board is the recommended final step when all other components check out.
