Error code E:24 on a Bosch dryer indicates a software version mismatch between the control module's installed firmware and the internal lookup table the dryer uses to validate its operating parameters. When this mismatch is detected, the dryer immediately halts all operation and locks out any restart attempts. This is a hard fault condition, meaning the machine will not resume normal function until the underlying cause is resolved.

The control module is the central electronic brain of the dryer, responsible for managing all cycle logic, sensor interpretation, motor control, and user interface functions. The software version stored in the module must correspond exactly to the version expected by the dryer's internal configuration table. A mismatch can occur if an incorrect or incompatible control module was installed during a previous repair, if a firmware update was interrupted or applied incorrectly, or if the module itself has experienced internal memory corruption that has altered how it identifies its own software version.

Because the dryer cannot resolve this conflict through any self-correction routine, and because a simple power cycle or reset does not rewrite or realign firmware, the only effective repair path is replacing the control module with a unit that carries the correct software version for that specific dryer model. Attempting to clear the fault through reset procedures alone will not resolve the mismatch and the dryer will continue to display E:24 and refuse to start.
