F028 indicates that the oven's control system failed to initiate communication between the user interface board and the glass touch panel over the I2C bus. This fault is detected during startup when the expected communication link cannot be established. It can be caused by wiring issues, inadequate supply voltage at the touch panel connector, or a failed board or panel.

Because F028 involves a failure in the touch panel communication, the range controls may be partially or fully unresponsive, making normal safe operation unreliable. It is best to avoid using the range until the fault is diagnosed and resolved to prevent unintended operation or inability to cancel a cooking cycle.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If only a connector needs to be reseated or cleaned, the cost may be limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. If the glass touch panel or user interface board requires replacement, parts alone can range from $100 to $350 or more depending on the model, with labor adding additional cost if a technician performs the repair.

Some causes of F028 are accessible to a skilled DIYer, such as reseating a loose wiring harness connector or cleaning corroded pins at the I2C interface.
