The E31 error code on a Frigidaire induction cooktop signals an internal generator synchronization fault within the left side induction cooking zones module. Induction cooktops rely on high-frequency generator circuits to produce the oscillating electromagnetic fields that heat cookware. The left side cooking zones are typically served by a dual generator circuit board, and E31 indicates that the sync signal across the three cook zones on that board has failed or fallen out of acceptable timing parameters. This synchronization is critical because the generators must coordinate their switching cycles to avoid interference and maintain stable power delivery to each burner.

The dual generator board on the left side contains power transistors, control ICs, and communication lines that coordinate zone operation. A sync failure can result from a breakdown in communication between the control board and the generator module, a fault in the oscillator or timing circuitry on the generator board itself, or corrupted feedback signals caused by damaged wiring harnesses and connectors. Because the board handles multiple zones simultaneously, a single point of failure in the sync circuit can trigger E31 across all three affected zones.

The first diagnostic step is a thorough inspection of all cables and connectors on the left side dual generator circuit board. Loose, corroded, or heat-damaged connectors are a frequent root cause of sync faults because even marginal contact resistance can disrupt the low-voltage communication signals between the main control board and the generator module. If the connections check out, the generator board itself becomes the primary suspect and will typically require replacement.
