What E means on a Frigidaire cooktop
The E error code on a Frigidaire induction cooktop indicates that the induction coil beneath the selected cooking zone has failed to detect compatible cookware. Induction cooktops work by generating an alternating electromagnetic field through a copper coil. When ferrous (iron-based or magnetic) cookware is placed on the zone, this field induces eddy currents in the pot or pan, which generate heat. If the coil cannot detect a sufficient magnetic response, the unit will not energize the coil and will display the E code instead.
The three most common triggers for this code are non-magnetic cookware, undersized cookware, and improper centering on the zone. Induction cooking requires pots and pans made from ferrous materials such as cast iron or magnetic stainless steel. Cookware made from aluminum, copper, glass, or non-magnetic stainless steel will not be detected. Additionally, each cooking zone has a minimum diameter requirement. If the cookware base is too small relative to the coil, the sensor cannot register a valid load. Finally, if the pan is shifted off-center, the coil's detection circuit may only partially sense the cookware, which can be enough to trigger the fault.
This is not a component failure code in most cases. It is a protective interlock designed to prevent the coil from energizing without a proper load present. However, if correctly sized and centered magnetic cookware consistently fails to clear the error, the issue may point to a faulty coil assembly or control board that is not properly processing the detection signal.

Common causes of E
- 01
Non-magnetic cookware
Wiring / connectionCookware made from aluminum, copper, glass, ceramic, or non-magnetic stainless steel cannot be detected by the induction coil. Test the pot or pan with a magnet at the base. If the magnet does not stick firmly, the cookware is not compatible.
- 02
Cookware too small for the zone
Wiring / connectionEach induction zone has a minimum cookware diameter requirement. If the base of the pot or pan is too small, the coil's detection circuit cannot register a sufficient load and will display the E code.
- 03
Cookware off-center on the zone
Wiring / connectionIf the pan is not centered over the cooking zone markings, the coil may only partially detect the cookware. Reposition the pan so it is aligned with the center of the zone indicator.
- 04
Warped or uneven cookware base
Wiring / connectionA heavily warped pot or pan base reduces the contact area over the coil, which can prevent consistent detection. Inspect the base of the cookware for visible bowing or warping and replace if necessary.
- 05
Faulty induction coil or control board
Part replacementIf verified magnetic, properly sized, and centered cookware consistently triggers the E code, the induction coil assembly or the control board processing the detection signal may be defective. This requires professional diagnosis and likely component replacement.
