The OF code on a Frigidaire freezer indicates that the freezer control has been placed in the OFF position. When this state is active, the control board disables both the compressor and the defrost cycle entirely. The unit is not in a fault or error condition in the traditional sense. Rather, OF is a status indicator showing the appliance has been intentionally or inadvertently set to a non-operational mode. The interior door light will continue to function normally because it operates on a separate circuit path that is not governed by the temperature control setting.

This condition is most commonly triggered when someone accidentally presses the control panel buttons and inadvertently navigates the temperature setting down past its lowest cooling point into the OFF position. On many Frigidaire freezer models, the control uses a digital interface where the down arrow cycles through temperature setpoints and eventually lands on the OFF state if pressed one too many times. Because the compressor is disabled, the freezer will not maintain any cooling, and food stored inside will begin to warm to ambient room temperature over time.

Restoring normal operation requires pressing the up arrow or down arrow to move the control setting away from the OFF position and back to an active temperature setpoint. The compressor and defrost cycle will resume once a valid temperature is selected. No component repair or replacement is needed for this condition unless the control panel buttons are physically stuck or malfunctioning, in which case the panel itself may require further inspection.
