OF means the freezer control has been set to the OFF position, disabling the compressor and the defrost cycle. The freezer will not cool while this status is active. The interior light will still work because it runs independently of the temperature control. This is a control state, not a fault code, and it does not indicate a broken component.

Food safety depends on how long the freezer has been in the OFF state. A fully loaded freezer can generally hold safe temperatures for several hours without power, but this varies with ambient temperature and how often the door has been opened. Check food for ice crystal loss or off odors before consuming anything that may have thawed. When in doubt, discard any items that have fully thawed and reached above safe temperatures.

In most cases there is no repair cost because OF simply means the control was turned off and needs to be turned back on via the panel button. If a stuck or failed control panel button is causing the issue, replacement of the control panel or touchpad assembly typically runs between $50 and $200 in parts depending on the model, plus labor if a technician is needed.

Press the down arrow button on the control panel to move the setting away from OFF and back to an active temperature setpoint. The compressor should restart within a few minutes once a valid temperature is selected. If the code returns on its own, inspect the control panel buttons for sticking or damage.

A full power reset, such as unplugging the unit and plugging it back in, may or may not clear the OF status depending on how the control initializes. The most direct solution is to press the down arrow button to select an active temperature setpoint. If the control restores to OFF again after a power reset, use the button to manually set a temperature.
