F42 indicates an internal software configuration error within the EOC, which is the main electronic control board for the oven. The board has detected that its programmed configuration does not match what is expected for the appliance. This error most commonly appears after an EOC replacement where the wrong part number was used. Confirming the correct replacement part is the first and most important diagnostic step.

If the F42 error appeared after a DIY EOC replacement, you can start by checking that the installed board's part number exactly matches the specification for your model. If you have not recently replaced the board, diagnosing and replacing the EOC requires comfort working with electrical components and is best handled by a qualified technician. Attempting repairs without proper knowledge of oven electrical systems can be hazardous.

If the fix involves replacing the EOC with the correct part, the cost of the board itself can range from roughly $150 to $350 or more depending on the model.
