Cd stands for Cancel Drain on a GE dishwasher. It indicates the appliance is actively pumping water out of the tub, typically after the user has pressed Cancel or changed the selected cycle. This is a normal operational status and not an error condition. The display will clear on its own once draining is complete.

Opening the door while Cd is displaying will interrupt the drain sequence. The pump will typically stop running when the door is opened. It is generally safe to open the door, but water may still be present in the tub if draining has not completed. Allow draining to finish before opening if possible to avoid any water spillage.

If the Cd code is simply part of normal operation, there is no repair cost. If the code persists due to a clogged filter or drain hose, cleaning is typically free or very low cost. A drain pump replacement, if needed, generally runs between $80 and $200 including parts and labor, depending on the model and service rates in your area. Control board replacement, in more complex cases, can range from $150 to $350 or more.

In most cases, no fix is needed. Simply allow the dishwasher to complete its drain cycle, which usually takes 90 seconds to 2 minutes. The Cd code will clear on its own once the drain pump finishes removing water from the tub. Performing a hard reset by cutting power at the circuit breaker is not necessary and may interrupt the drain cycle, leaving water in the sump. It is best to let the sequence complete naturally before attempting any reset.
