The F11 error code on a GE dishwasher indicates that the control board has detected a temperature sensor reading that is abnormally low. The temperature sensor in GE dishwashers is a thermistor, a resistive component whose electrical resistance changes predictably with temperature. When the thermistor sends a signal to the main control board that falls outside the expected low-end threshold, the board interprets this as a fault and triggers the F11 code. This can occur either because the water temperature is genuinely too low, or more commonly, because the thermistor itself is malfunctioning.
The thermistor is typically located in the sump area or on the heating element assembly, where it monitors wash and rinse water temperatures to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing cycles.
