What RINSE flashes means on a GE dishwasher
The RINSE flashing indicator on a GE dishwasher signals a pressure sensor fault in which the sensor's output voltage has exceeded 4.8 VDC. The pressure sensor monitors water level inside the tub by converting hydraulic pressure into an electrical signal that the main control board reads to manage fill and drain cycles. When this signal climbs above the 4.8 VDC threshold, the control interprets it as an out-of-range condition and triggers the fault. Notably, the dishwasher continues running the selected program despite the alert, which means the machine is not locked out but is operating without reliable pressure feedback.
The fault points to three primary areas: the pressure sensor itself, the wiring harness connecting the sensor to the main control board, and the main control board. A failed or drifting pressure sensor can output an elevated voltage even when water levels are normal. Wiring faults such as a short to a voltage source, a damaged connector, or corroded terminals can artificially raise the signal voltage seen by the control board. In some cases the main control board's input circuit is responsible, misreading a normal sensor signal as above threshold.
Diagnosis should begin by inspecting the wiring between the pressure sensor and the control board for pinched wires, moisture intrusion, or damaged connectors. The sensor output voltage should be measured directly at the sensor connector and compared against the expected operating range. If the sensor is producing greater than 4.8 VDC under normal fill conditions, sensor replacement is the likely solution. If wiring checks out and the sensor reads correctly at its own terminals, the main control board becomes the primary suspect.

Common causes of RINSE flashes
- 01
Faulty pressure sensor
Part replacementThe pressure sensor itself may have failed internally, causing it to output a voltage above 4.8 VDC regardless of actual water level. Testing the sensor voltage directly at its connector during operation will confirm whether the sensor is the source of the elevated signal.
- 02
Damaged or shorted wiring harness
Wiring / connectionA wire in the harness between the pressure sensor and the main control board may be shorted to a voltage source, pinched, or have a corroded connector pushing the signal voltage above the fault threshold. Visual inspection and continuity testing of the harness will identify this condition.
- 03
Corroded or loose connector at the sensor or control board
Wiring / connectionMoisture or corrosion at the sensor connector or at the control board terminal block can alter resistance in the circuit and cause an artificially elevated voltage reading. Disconnecting, cleaning, and reseating connectors at both ends is an important early diagnostic step.
- 04
Defective main control board
Part replacementIf the pressure sensor measures within its normal voltage range at its own connector but the fault persists, the input circuit on the main control board may be misinterpreting the signal. This is typically confirmed after the sensor and wiring have been ruled out.
