Error code 745 on a GE range indicates that the control board cannot determine the current position or status of the Cavity 1 door lock mechanism. The door lock assembly is a motorized component that engages during self-clean cycles to secure the oven door against opening at high temperatures. The control board continuously monitors feedback signals from the lock motor and associated position switches to confirm whether the lock is fully engaged, fully retracted, or in transition. When those feedback signals are absent, contradictory, or fall outside expected parameters, the control logs error 745 to alert the technician that the lock state cannot be confirmed.

The most common root causes involve the wiring harness that runs between the lock assembly and the control board. A loose connector, pinched wire, or heat-damaged conductor can interrupt the position feedback signal. The lock motor itself can also fail internally, leaving the mechanism physically stuck in a mid-travel position with no valid signal reaching the board. In some cases, the door lock switch contacts become worn or corroded, producing intermittent or no continuity.

Diagnosis begins with pressing Cancel to attempt a system reset, which may clear the error if it was triggered by a momentary signal interruption. If the error returns, the next step is a physical inspection of the lock assembly and its harness connections at both the lock end and the control board connector. Technicians should check for continuity through the harness and verify that the lock motor receives proper voltage and moves freely through its full range of travel.
