The scanning process works by cycling through keypad rows and columns to detect key presses, and a failure in this loop points to either a software glitch or a hardware problem within the RC15 control itself.

The most common starting point for this fault is a transient software error, meaning the control's microprocessor encountered an unexpected state during its keypad scan routine. This type of error can sometimes resolve itself with a simple reset.
