The touch key chip is an integrated circuit embedded on the logic board that processes capacitive or resistive touch input signals from the control panel. When this chip fails to communicate properly, produces out-of-range signals, or encounters an internal fault condition, the control system flags F720 and may disable range operation to prevent unsafe or erratic behavior.

This is a board-level fault, meaning the failure is internal to the Main Logic Board itself rather than in an external sensor, wiring harness, or keypad overlay. The touch key chip cannot be replaced independently as a discrete component in a field repair scenario. The entire logic board must be replaced as an assembly. Contributing factors can include power surge damage to the chip, thermal stress from prolonged high-temperature operation near the board, or manufacturing defects that cause the chip to degrade over time.

Because the diagnostic path points directly to the Main Logic Board, preliminary steps such as checking external wiring or connectors are unlikely to resolve this code. A hard reset by disconnecting power for several minutes can be attempted first to rule out a transient signal glitch.
