The machine will not resume normal operation until the issue is resolved.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while error code 5 is active. The machine has stopped to protect itself from mechanical damage that could result from forcing a transition between agitate and spin modes without the mode shifter operating correctly. Continuing to run it could cause additional wear or damage to the drive system.

Resetting the washer by unplugging it for a few minutes may temporarily clear the error code, but the code will return if the underlying mechanical problem has not been fixed.
