GE Washer Dryer Error Code 8
Pressure sensor loss
Pressure sensor loss - too great a difference in the pressure sensor reading and the expected reading for the amount of water the control calculated it has put in.

What 8 means on a GE washer dryer
Error code 8 on a GE washer/dryer combination unit indicates a pressure sensor discrepancy. The control board tracks how much water it has commanded the inlet valves to deliver, then compares that calculated fill volume against the actual reading from the pressure sensor (also called the water level sensor or pressure switch). When the difference between the expected reading and the actual sensor reading exceeds an acceptable threshold, the control triggers error code 8 to halt operation and flag the mismatch.
The pressure sensor works by detecting air pressure in a small tube connected to the tub. As water rises, it compresses the air in the tube, and the sensor converts that pressure into a signal the control board interprets as a water level. If the tub is receiving less water than the control expects, due to low supply pressure, closed shutoff valves, kinked hoses, or clogged inlet screens, the sensor reading will lag behind the calculated fill. Conversely, a faulty or drifting pressure sensor can report incorrect levels even when the fill is proceeding normally.
The first step in any diagnostic sequence is confirming the household water supply valves behind the machine are fully open. Beyond that, the inlet valve screens, the pressure sensor hose for cracks or blockages, and the sensor itself are the primary components to inspect. A failed inlet valve that is not opening fully can also produce this fault by restricting water flow below what the control board anticipates.

Common causes of 8
- 01
House water supply valves partially or fully closed
Wiring / connectionIf the hot or cold shutoff valves behind the unit are not fully open, water flow will be restricted and the tub will fill more slowly than the control board expects. Confirm both valves are turned completely counterclockwise.
- 02
Clogged inlet valve screens
Wiring / connectionMesh screens inside the water inlet connections trap sediment over time and can severely reduce flow rate. Remove the supply hoses and inspect the screens for debris buildup; cleaning or replacing them restores proper flow.
- 03
Kinked or restricted fill hoses
Wiring / connectionSupply hoses that are bent sharply or pinched against the wall limit water delivery. Pull the unit forward and inspect both hoses along their full length for kinks or damage.
- 04
Faulty or failing pressure sensor
Part replacementA pressure sensor that is out of calibration or failing can report water levels that do not match actual tub conditions, triggering the discrepancy error even when fill volume is correct. Inspect the sensor and its connecting hose for cracks, blockages, or disconnection.
- 05
Defective water inlet valve
Part replacementAn inlet valve solenoid that is not opening fully will restrict water entry below the expected rate. If supply pressure and hoses check out, the inlet valve assembly may need testing and replacement.
