Error code 05 on a GE washer indicates that the pressure sensor has detected the tub is not filling with water as the machine expects. The washer monitors water level through a pressure sensor that outputs a frequency signal, and this code appears when that signal does not reflect the correct fill level within the required time. The fault can originate from the water supply, the inlet valve, the pressure hose, or the sensor itself.

You should not continue using the washer while this code is active. The machine has stopped the cycle because it cannot confirm the correct water level, and running a wash cycle with insufficient water can strain the motor and pump, and will produce poor cleaning results. Address the underlying cause before resuming normal use.

Repair costs depend on which component is at fault. Replacing an inlet valve or pressure sensor typically costs between 50 and 150 dollars for parts, plus labor if a technician is involved. If the issue is simply a kinked pressure hose or a closed water supply valve, the repair can be done at no parts cost. A reset may temporarily clear the code, but it will return as soon as the washer attempts another fill cycle if the root cause has not been fixed. A reset is useful for ruling out a one-time control glitch, but the code 05 condition requires physical inspection and, in most cases, component testing or replacement to resolve permanently.
