What F08 means on a Indesit dryer
The F08 error code on an Indesit dryer indicates that the lower heating element is being detected as energised at a time when the control module has not commanded it to activate. This is a feedback or circuit integrity fault, meaning the module is reading voltage or current through the lower element circuit when the element should be in an off state. The control board continuously monitors heating element status as part of its safety logic, and when the sensed state contradicts the commanded state, F08 is triggered to prevent uncontrolled or runaway heating.
The most common starting point for diagnosis is connector J4 on the control module. A loose, corroded, or partially seated connector at J4 can cause false voltage readings on the element feedback line, leading the board to believe the element is live when the command signal is off. This should always be the first physical check before condemning any other component.
Beyond the connector, the fault can stem from a relay on the control board that has welded contacts and is stuck in the closed position, continuing to pass current to the element regardless of the control signal. A failed triac on the board can behave similarly. Wiring harness damage causing a short to live on the lower element circuit is another possible cause. In rarer cases, the lower element itself may have an internal short that creates a parallel current path, though this typically also produces other symptoms such as nuisance tripping of thermal cutouts.

Common causes of F08
- 01
Loose or faulty module connector J4
Wiring / connectionA poorly seated, corroded, or damaged connector at J4 on the control module can cause a false signal, making the board read the lower element as energised when it is not. Reseat the connector firmly and inspect the pins for corrosion or bent contacts.
- 02
Welded relay contacts on the control board
Part replacementThe relay responsible for switching the lower heating element can develop welded contacts due to arcing, leaving the circuit permanently closed. If the relay contacts are fused together, the element will remain energised regardless of the board's command signal, and the control board will need replacement.
- 03
Failed triac on the control board
Part replacementA shorted triac on the control module can allow current to pass to the lower element even when no trigger signal is applied. This is a board-level fault and typically requires replacing the control module.
- 04
Wiring harness short circuit
Wiring / connectionChafed or damaged wiring in the lower element circuit can create an unintended connection to live voltage, causing the element to appear energised when it should be off. Inspect the full harness run from J4 to the lower element for signs of insulation damage or contact with metal edges.
- 05
Internally shorted lower heating element
Part replacementA fault within the lower element itself can create a leakage path that registers as the element being energised. Check the element for resistance values outside the expected range and inspect for visible burn damage.
