When these two boards do not recognize each other as compatible components, the E3 fault is triggered.

The most frequent root cause is an incorrect part installed during a previous repair. If either the machine control board or the console electronics assembly was replaced with a unit carrying the wrong part number, a software or hardware mismatch will result. This can happen even when the physical connectors fit, because the firmware versions or component configurations may differ between revision levels of the same board family.
