The CF code on a Kenmore oven stands for "Check Food" and is not an error or fault condition. It is a programmed reminder built into the oven control system that activates specifically when two features are used together: the convection convert function and a timed convection bake setting with a total cook duration of 20 minutes or more. When those conditions are met, the control board monitors elapsed cook time and triggers the CF display at the 75% completion point. For example, if you set a 60-minute timed convection bake, CF will appear after 45 minutes have passed.

The convection convert feature automatically adjusts the oven temperature downward (typically by 25 degrees Fahrenheit) to compensate for the more efficient heat circulation produced by the convection fan. Because convection cooking moves heat more aggressively around the food, dishes often finish faster than conventional bake times suggest. The CF reminder exists to prompt the user to open the oven and evaluate doneness before the full programmed time expires, reducing the risk of overcooking.

When CF appears, the oven control will also sound one long beep at regular intervals to draw attention to the reminder. This audible alert continues until the full cook time completes. No action is required beyond checking the food. The oven will continue operating normally through the remainder of the set bake time. Once the total programmed duration finishes, the control will end the bake cycle as it normally would.
