Kenmore Washer Error Code F52

F52 indicates a motor rotor position sensor (RPS) fault. The control board detected no signal from the RPS while the motor was running. This can be caused by mechanical friction preventing the motor from turning, a failed RPS, damaged wiring, or a faulty motor control board. The washer halts operation to prevent further damage.

A reset may temporarily clear the displayed code, but if the underlying fault still exists, the F52 will return as soon as the motor attempts to run again. The sensor, wiring, or mechanical issue causing the fault must be diagnosed and corrected for the code to stay clear permanently.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. Replacing a wiring harness or RPS sensor typically runs in the range of $50 to $150 in parts, while a motor control board replacement can cost between $100 and $300 or more for the part alone. Adding professional labor generally brings the total to between $150 and $400 depending on the repair.

Start by checking whether the wash basket spins freely by hand. If it does not spin freely, locate and remove any source of friction such as a worn bearing or failed drive coupling. If the basket spins freely, proceed to TEST #3 to evaluate the RPS sensor, its wiring harness, and ultimately the motor control board.

You should not continue running the washer while F52 is active. The machine has already shut itself down because it cannot safely control the motor without RPS feedback. Attempting to force it to run could cause additional damage to the motor or motor control board.
