This code indicates the control board has detected a low pressure fault and logged one strike toward a full lockout. The slow flash on DS1 with DS2 off is the board's warning state, meaning the system has not yet locked out completely but will if additional faults occur. The low pressure switch tripped because refrigerant suction pressure dropped below its threshold. Common triggers include restricted airflow, low refrigerant charge, a faulty metering device, or an incorrectly positioned pressure sensor.

Operating the system with an active low pressure fault carries risk of compressor damage, particularly if the cause is a low refrigerant charge. The multi-strike lockout system is designed to allow limited restart attempts, but continued cycling under low pressure conditions can overheat the compressor windings. It is best to address the root cause promptly rather than allow the system to accumulate additional fault strikes.

Repair costs vary widely depending on the root cause. Replacing a dirty filter or clearing a coil blockage involves minimal expense, while refrigerant leak repairs and recharging can range from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars depending on leak location and refrigerant type. Metering device or pressure sensor replacements typically fall in the range of one hundred to several hundred dollars in parts plus labor. A diagnostic service call is usually required first to determine the specific cause.

Some causes, like a dirty air filter, a blocked outdoor coil, or obstructed return air vents, can be corrected without professional help. However, diagnosing refrigerant charge issues, metering device problems, or sensor faults requires gauges and technical training. If basic airflow checks do not resolve the fault, a licensed HVAC technician should be contacted to avoid compressor damage from repeated low pressure events.

A power reset may clear the logged strike temporarily, and the system may resume normal operation if the fault was intermittent. However, if the underlying condition, such as low refrigerant, restricted airflow, or a failed component, is still present, the fault will return and additional strikes will accumulate toward lockout. Resetting without diagnosing the root cause is not a permanent solution.
