The system is designed to protect itself by shutting the compressor down when this fault occurs, so immediate compressor damage is unlikely as long as the safety circuit is functioning correctly. However, continuing to operate the unit without addressing the root cause increases the risk of compressor failure over time, especially as additional strikes accumulate toward a full lockout. It is best to have the fault diagnosed and corrected promptly to avoid more costly repairs.
