CH48 indicates a condenser pipe temperature sensor error. Specifically, the control board has detected either an open circuit, a short circuit, or an abnormally low temperature reading from the NTC thermistor mounted on the condenser coil piping. The unit shuts down normal operation when this fault is active to prevent potential damage from operating under unknown condenser conditions.

It is not recommended to continue running the unit while CH48 is active. The control board relies on condenser pipe temperature data to manage compressor operation and prevent overheating or pressure faults. Operating without a valid sensor signal removes an important protection mechanism and could lead to compressor damage over time.

If the repair only requires replacing the condenser pipe thermistor sensor, parts and labor typically fall in the range of $75 to $200 depending on the model and local labor rates. If the fault is traced to the main control board, costs can rise to the $200 to $500 range. A refrigerant-related repair involving leak detection and recharge adds additional cost and requires a certified technician.
