The 4E code means the dishwasher detected a water supply problem. Specifically, the control board did not receive at least 4 flow meter pulses within 40 seconds of the fill starting, or the target water level was not reached within 10 minutes. The cycle is halted to protect the pump and heating element from running dry.

A reset can clear the error code from the display, but it will return as soon as the next fill cycle begins if the underlying problem has not been resolved. To reset, press and hold the Start or Power button for several seconds. Only attempt a reset after addressing the water supply issue first.

If the fix is simply opening the supply valve or cleaning the inlet screen, there is no parts cost involved. Replacing a faulty water inlet valve typically costs between $25 and $75 for the part, while a flow meter replacement can range from $20 to $60. Adding professional labor, total repair costs generally fall between $100 and $250 depending on which component has failed.

Start by making sure the water supply valve under the sink is fully open and the supply hose is not kinked. Next, shut off the water and check the filter screen at the inlet valve for sediment clogs. If water supply is confirmed adequate and the error persists, the inlet solenoid valve or the flow meter may need to be tested and replaced.

You should not continue running cycles while the 4E error is active. The code indicates the dishwasher is not receiving sufficient water, and operating the pump or heating element without adequate water can cause component damage. Resolve the water supply issue before resuming use.
