LG Dishwasher Error Code AE2

AE2 means the main control board (Main PBA) received no response from the inverter control board (Inverter PBA) for 3 seconds. The dishwasher attempts this communication cycle up to three times, turning off the inverter relay for 1 minute between attempts. After three failed attempts, the AE2 code is displayed and the dishwasher stops operating.

A power reset may temporarily clear the AE2 code, but if the underlying communication fault between the two boards is still present, the code will return once the dishwasher attempts to run a cycle. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it is not a permanent fix without addressing the root cause.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost involved, only your time. If the wiring harness needs replacement, parts and labor costs typically range from around $50 to $150. Inverter PBA replacement, the most common board-level repair for this code, generally runs between $100 and $300 depending on the specific model and whether you hire a technician.

In many cases the fix is straightforward. Start by unplugging the dishwasher, locating the CN1 connectors on both the Main PBA and the Inverter PBA, and firmly reseating both connectors. Also inspect the wiring harness between them for any visible damage or corrosion. If reseating the connectors does not resolve the code, a board replacement will likely be needed, which is a more involved repair.

The dishwasher will not complete a wash cycle when AE2 is active because the motor control communication has failed. Attempting repeated cycles while the fault is unresolved will not cause a safety hazard in most cases, but it will not produce a successful wash and could contribute to further wear on the control components. It is best to diagnose and repair the issue before running additional cycles.
