A power reset may temporarily clear the E3 code, but the fault will return if the underlying cause, such as a disconnected wire or failed thermistor, has not been corrected. The control board will continue to detect the out-of-range sensor signal each time the unit runs. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it is not a repair.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If the fix is simply reseating a disconnected wire, the cost may be limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing an evaporator thermistor is generally an affordable repair, with parts and labor often falling between $100 and $250. Continuing to run the refrigerator with an active E3 fault is not recommended.
