Maytag Dryer Error Code WATER NOT CONNECTED

The WATER NOT CONNECTED error on a Maytag dryer is generated by the S.A.F.E. (Sensor Activated Fire Extinguishing) system when it detects no adequate water pressure at the S.A.F.E. water valve. This system requires a continuous water supply connection to function, as it is designed to deliver water in the event of a dryer fire. When the control board monitors the water circuit and receives no signal confirming adequate pressure, it triggers this fault code. The control will continue monitoring for up to 5 minutes before escalating the condition to S.A.F.E. SYSTEM DISABLED mode, at which point the fire suppression function is fully deactivated.

The fault can originate from several points in the water supply and sensing circuit. The most straightforward cause is a closed or partially closed shutoff valve at the water supply line connected to the dryer. Low incoming water pressure from the household supply can also prevent the system from registering a valid connection. Beyond the supply itself, a defective water pressure switch is a likely culprit, as this component is responsible for signaling the control board that adequate pressure is present.

Wiring between the pressure switch and the control board is another potential failure point. Broken, corroded, or disconnected wiring can interrupt the signal even when water supply and pressure are fully adequate. Diagnosing this fault requires a systematic approach: confirm the shutoff valves are fully open, verify supply line pressure, then inspect and test the pressure switch and associated wiring for continuity and proper connection.
