What 1c32 means on a Maytag oven
Error code 1c32 indicates the control board has detected a problem in the cancel key circuit for the lower oven. Specifically, the board is reading a resistance value outside the expected range of 1000 to 6600 ohms from the cancel key circuit. When this fault is active, the control board responds by disabling the oven lights and timers as a protective measure. The fault points directly at the cancel key, its associated wiring, or the membrane keypad assembly on the lower oven control panel.
For a homeowner, this means the control board tested the cancel button and got a reading it did not expect. The cancel key uses a resistor-based circuit to communicate its state to the board, and something in that circuit is either open, shorted, or out of spec. This could be a worn or damaged cancel key on the touchpad, a broken wire or connector between the keypad and the control board, or in some cases the control board itself has failed.
Because the control disables lights and timers when this code appears, normal oven operation will be disrupted even if the heating elements themselves are functional. Clearing the code by cycling power may temporarily restore function, but the fault is likely to return until the underlying cause is resolved.

Common causes of 1c32
- 01
Failed or worn cancel key on lower oven membrane keypad
Part replacementThe cancel key contact inside the membrane touchpad can wear out or delaminate over time, causing the circuit resistance to fall outside the 1000-6600 ohm range the control board expects. This is the most common cause of a 1c32 fault.
- 02
Damaged or disconnected wiring harness between keypad and control board
Wiring / connectionThe ribbon cable or wire harness connecting the lower oven keypad to the control board can develop cracks, loose connector seats, or broken pins, disrupting the cancel key circuit signal and producing an out-of-range resistance reading.
- 03
Short or open circuit in the cancel key connector
Wiring / connectionGrease, moisture, or corrosion at the keypad connector can create a short or open in the cancel key circuit, pushing resistance readings below 1000 ohms or above 6600 ohms and triggering the fault code.
- 04
Faulty lower oven control board
Part replacementIf the keypad, wiring, and connectors all test within spec, the control board itself may have a failed input circuit for the cancel key, causing it to misread a correct resistance value or generate the fault internally.
