What F0E means on a Miele dishwasher

The F0E error code on a Miele dishwasher indicates a water inlet fault, meaning the machine detected insufficient or no water entering the wash tub during the fill cycle. The dishwasher monitors incoming water flow and triggers this code when the expected volume is not reached within a set time window. This fault is rooted in the water supply and inlet system, which includes the household supply valve, the inlet hose, the mesh filter screen at the hose connection, and the inlet solenoid valve itself.

The most straightforward cause is a closed or partially open water supply shutoff valve, which restricts flow before water even reaches the appliance. Equally common is a clogged inlet filter screen, a small mesh strainer located where the inlet hose connects to the back of the dishwasher. Over time, mineral deposits and debris accumulate on this screen and reduce water flow to the point where the machine cannot fill correctly. Both of these are user-serviceable issues that require no parts replacement.

A third possibility is activation of the waterproof system, sometimes called Miele's Waterproof System or WPS. This is a protective mechanism that shuts off water flow automatically if a leak is detected in the base of the machine. If the waterproof system has tripped, simply restoring the water supply will not clear the condition. The machine needs to be turned off using the main power button, any standing water in the base tray addressed, and the underlying cause of the leak identified before the system will reset and allow normal operation to resume.

Common causes of F0E

  1. 01

Closed or restricted water supply valve

    Wiring / connection

The shutoff valve under the sink or behind the dishwasher may be fully or partially closed, blocking water from reaching the machine. Check that the valve is turned completely to the open position.

  2. 02

    Clogged water inlet filter screen

    Wiring / connection

A mesh strainer sits at the point where the inlet hose connects to the dishwasher and can become blocked with sediment or debris over time. Turn off the water supply, disconnect the inlet hose, and rinse the filter screen under running water to clear the blockage.

  3. 03

    Kinked or pinched inlet hose

    Wiring / connection

The water supply hose running from the valve to the dishwasher may be kinked, especially if the appliance was recently moved or reinstalled. Inspect the full length of the hose and straighten any bends that restrict flow.

  4. 04

    Waterproof system activation

    Wiring / connection

Miele's built-in waterproof system will cut off water flow if moisture is detected in the drip tray at the base of the unit. If this system has triggered, the dishwasher will display F0E and will not fill until the leak source is found, the tray is dried out, and the machine is fully powered off and reset.

  5. 05

    Faulty water inlet solenoid valve

    Part replacement

If the supply is confirmed open and the filter is clean but the machine still will not fill, the inlet solenoid valve may have failed and is not opening to allow water through. This component requires replacement by a qualified technician.

Frequently asked questions about F0E

What does F0E mean on a Miele dishwasher?
F0E is a water inlet fault code indicating the dishwasher is not receiving adequate water during the fill cycle. The cause may be a closed water supply valve, a clogged inlet filter screen, or activation of the built-in waterproof system. The first step is to turn the machine off using the main power button, verify the water supply is fully open, and inspect the inlet filter for blockages.
Can I fix the F0E error myself without calling a technician?
In many cases, yes. The most common causes of F0E are a closed supply valve and a clogged inlet filter screen, both of which are straightforward to address without tools or replacement parts. If those checks do not resolve the fault, or if the waterproof system has activated due to a leak inside the machine, a technician should inspect the unit to identify and repair the source of the problem.
Will resetting the dishwasher clear the F0E error code?
Turning the machine off with the main power button is the recommended first step, but simply resetting will not clear the fault if the underlying cause remains. If the supply valve is closed or the filter is blocked, those issues must be corrected first. If the waterproof system has tripped, the water in the base tray must be removed and the leak source resolved before the machine will operate normally again.
Is it safe to use my Miele dishwasher when F0E is displayed?
You should not attempt to run a cycle while the F0E code is active. The machine will not fill correctly and the cycle will not complete. More importantly, if the waterproof system has activated in response to an actual leak, continuing to use the appliance could cause water damage to your flooring or cabinetry. Address the fault before resuming use.
How much does it cost to repair a Miele dishwasher showing F0E?
If the cause is a closed valve or a clogged filter, there is no parts cost and the repair takes only a few minutes. If the inlet solenoid valve has failed and needs replacement, parts and labor costs typically range from $150 to $350 depending on your location and the service provider. If the waterproof system triggered due to a hose or pump leak, repair costs will vary based on which component is at fault.
