The SE code on a Miele refrigerator is not an error code in the traditional sense. It is a factory production self-test code that appears when the unit was undergoing quality control testing at the manufacturing facility. During this testing phase, Miele technicians run the refrigerator through a series of automated checks under controlled conditions. If the unit could not meet the specific parameters required by those factory test conditions, the SE code was stored and may appear on the display after the refrigerator reaches the end user.

Because SE is a production artifact rather than a functional fault, it does not indicate any problem with the compressor, temperature sensors, control board, or any other operational component. The refrigerator is not detecting a live failure. Instead, the code is simply a flag left over from the assembly line process. This distinction is important: the appliance is not in a fault state, and normal refrigeration operation is not affected by the presence of this code.

Clearing the SE code requires only a simple button press. Pressing the s button on the control panel dismisses the code and returns the display to normal operation.
