Samsung Dishwasher Error Code HC2

HC2 indicates a drying heater malfunction. During the drying cycle, the dishwasher monitors air temperature inside the drying duct and expects it to rise by more than 2 degrees Celsius within 85 seconds. If that temperature increase does not occur across three consecutive attempts, the HC2 code is triggered. The first components to inspect are the drying fan motor and the drying duct temperature sensor.

A power reset may temporarily clear the HC2 code, but it will return if the underlying fault is still present. Because the error requires three consecutive failed drying cycles to trigger, it may not reappear immediately after a reset. If the code comes back after normal use, the drying fan motor, temperature sensor, or heating element needs to be diagnosed and repaired.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. Replacing a temperature sensor or a fan motor is generally less expensive, typically in the range of $50 to $150 for parts, with additional labor costs if a technician is hired. A failed main control board is the most expensive repair and can push total costs to $200 to $400 or more depending on your location and service rates.

Some causes of HC2, such as a loose connector or a visibly damaged wire, can be addressed by a confident DIYer with basic electrical knowledge. However, testing the fan motor, heating element for continuity, and temperature sensor typically requires a multimeter and some disassembly of the unit. If you are not comfortable working with appliance wiring, scheduling a technician is the safer choice.

The dishwasher will likely still wash dishes when showing HC2, since the error is specific to the drying system. However, continuing to run the machine without addressing the fault means dishes will come out wet and the underlying component issue will remain unresolved. It is best to diagnose and repair the problem before continuing regular use.
