Samsung Dishwasher Error Code tE1

The tE1 code means the dishwasher has detected a thermistor error. The thermistor is the component that measures water temperature, and the control board has found that the voltage signal from the thermistor is outside the normal 0.2 to 4.5V range, or the resistance reading is out of specification. This prevents the dishwasher from safely continuing its cycle. The fault can be in the thermistor itself, its wiring connector, or the main control board.

You should not continue running the dishwasher while the tE1 code is active. Without reliable temperature readings, the control board cannot properly regulate water heating, which could result in inadequate cleaning or, in edge cases, overheating. It is best to resolve the fault before resuming normal use.

A reset may temporarily clear the tE1 code, but if the underlying fault is still present, the code will return once the dishwasher attempts to run a cycle and reads the thermistor signal again. A reset is useful for confirming whether the error is intermittent or persistent, but it is not a fix. The thermistor, its connector, and the wiring should be inspected to find and correct the actual cause.

Many cases of the tE1 error can be resolved without a technician. Start by inspecting and reseating the thermistor connector to rule out a loose or corroded connection. If you are comfortable using a multimeter, you can test the thermistor's resistance to determine if the sensor itself has failed and needs to be replaced. Wiring harness and Main PBA issues are more involved and may benefit from professional diagnosis.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. A thermistor replacement is typically the least expensive fix, with parts generally ranging from $15 to $50 and professional labor adding $75 to $150 on top of that. If the Main PBA is at fault, parts alone can range from $100 to $250 or more, making total repair costs significantly higher. Getting a diagnosis before committing to a repair helps avoid unnecessary parts replacement.
