The 5C code on a Samsung dryer indicates a drainage system fault. It is triggered when the dryer detects an overflow condition three times in a row or when the drain pump fails to operate. The dryer stops to prevent water damage inside the unit. This code is common on ventless condenser dryers that collect moisture in an internal water tank.

A reset may temporarily clear the 5C code, but it will return if the underlying drainage problem is not resolved. To reset, unplug the dryer for a few minutes and then restore power. However, if the water tank is still full, the drain pump is blocked, or the float sensor is faulty, the code will reappear as soon as the dryer attempts a drainage cycle.

Repair costs depend on which component is at fault. If only the water tank needed emptying, there is no parts cost. Replacing a drain pump typically runs between $80 and $200 including parts and labor, while a float sensor replacement generally falls in the $50 to $150 range. Control board replacement, if required, is the most expensive repair and can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on labor rates in your area.

Start by emptying the water collection tank completely, then restart the dryer to see if the code clears. If the code returns, inspect the drain pump for debris blocking the impeller and check that all hose connections are clear and unkinked. Also inspect the float sensor to ensure it moves freely and is not stuck in the raised position. If pump or sensor components are defective, they will need to be replaced.

It is not recommended to continue using the dryer while the 5C code is active. The dryer shuts itself down specifically to prevent water from overflowing inside the machine, which could damage internal components or create a slip hazard. Resolve the drainage issue before resuming normal use.
