AC6 means the dryer has lost communication between the main control board and the inverter board, which controls the drive motor. The dryer cannot operate safely without this signal link, so it shuts down and displays the code. The fault is most often caused by a loose, disconnected, or damaged wire connection between the two boards rather than a board failure itself.

A reset, typically performed by unplugging the dryer for a few minutes and then powering it back on, may temporarily clear the AC6 code. However, if the underlying wiring or board issue is not corrected, the code will return as soon as the dryer attempts to operate. A reset alone is not a fix and should only be used as part of the diagnostic process.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost, though a service call from a technician could run anywhere from $75 to $150 or more depending on your location. If the inverter PBA needs replacement, parts and labor combined typically range from $150 to $350. Main board replacement tends to cost in a similar range, and the total will vary based on the specific model and labor rates in your area.

If you are comfortable working inside the dryer cabinet, you can start by unplugging the unit and inspecting the wire harness connections between the main and inverter PBAs for loose or disconnected connectors. Reseating a loose connector may resolve the code without any parts. If the wiring looks intact and the error returns, board replacement is likely needed and may be better handled by a technician.

The dryer will not operate normally when AC6 is active, as the communication fault prevents safe motor control. You should not attempt to force the dryer to run in this condition. Leave the unit unplugged until the wiring issue or board fault has been identified and corrected.
