The tC4 code means the dryer has detected an abnormal reading from the Drum IPM temperature sensor. The reading is either extremely low or extremely high, which places it outside the acceptable operating range. The dryer will typically stop running to protect the electronics from potential damage. The issue originates in the sensor itself, its wiring, or the IPM module it monitors.

It is not recommended to continue operating the dryer while the tC4 code is active. The code exists to protect the IPM module from damage caused by overheating or a sensor circuit fault. Running the dryer through the error could lead to more extensive and costly damage to the drive electronics. Resolve the fault before resuming normal use.

Unplugging the dryer for a few minutes and restarting it may temporarily clear the tC4 code, but it will return if the underlying fault is still present. A reset does not repair a failed sensor, a wiring fault, or a defective IPM module. Persistent reappearance of the code after a reset is a strong indicator that a physical component issue needs to be diagnosed and repaired.

Some aspects of this repair are DIY-friendly, such as checking for loose connectors or inspecting the wiring harness for visible damage. However, testing sensor resistance values accurately requires a multimeter and some familiarity with reading circuit diagrams. Replacing the IPM module involves working with the dryer's power electronics, which is generally better suited to a qualified technician.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there may be no parts cost at all. Sensor replacement typically falls in the range of $20 to $60 for the part. If the IPM module requires replacement, parts and labor combined can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on the specific model and local labor rates.
