The tC7 code means the control board has detected an abnormal resistance reading from Thermistor 3, one of the dryer's internal temperature sensors. The resistance is either too low, indicating a short, or too high, indicating an open circuit or broken sensor. The dryer stops the cycle to prevent unsafe operation. The fault points to either the thermistor itself or the wiring connected to it.

It is not recommended to continue using the dryer while this error is active. Thermistor 3 provides temperature data the control board uses to regulate heat output, and operating without accurate sensor feedback could lead to overheating. The dryer may shut itself down anyway as a safety measure, but running repeated cycles in this condition risks damage to other components.

A power reset may temporarily clear the tC7 code, but it will return as soon as the control board reads the out-of-range thermistor signal again. Because the fault is tied to a measurable hardware condition, the underlying problem with Thermistor 3 or its wiring must be repaired for the code to clear permanently. Resetting without repair is useful only for confirming the code is repeatable.

Many technicians and experienced DIYers can diagnose this fault with a basic multimeter. Start by unplugging the dryer, locating Thermistor 3, and measuring its resistance. If the sensor is faulty, replacing a thermistor is generally a straightforward repair. Wiring issues such as a loose connector can also be corrected without special tools, though accessing the sensor may require partial disassembly of the dryer cabinet.
