Error code 02 on a Samsung refrigerator signals a fault in the refrigerator room temperature sensor, also called the R-sensor. The control board triggers this code when the sensed temperature reads above 150°F or below -58°F, both of which are outside any realistic operating range. This indicates the sensor circuit has a problem such as a loose connector, damaged wiring, a short-circuit, or a failed thermistor element.

It is not advisable to rely on the refrigerator for food storage while the 02 error is active. Because the control board cannot get an accurate temperature reading from the R-sensor, it may not run the compressor or fans correctly, which means the compartment temperature could rise without any indication. Perishable food should be moved to a working refrigerator until the error is resolved.

If the problem is only a loose or corroded connector, the repair may cost very little beyond your time or a minimal service call fee. Replacing a damaged wiring harness section typically runs in the range of $50 to $150 for parts and labor depending on the extent of the damage. Resetting the unit is useful as a first step to confirm the code reappears, which helps confirm an active fault rather than a one-time glitch.
