Error code 1-5 on a Viking dishwasher indicates a drain error on non-pressure sensor models. The control board uses a detection algorithm to determine whether water remains in the tub after the drain cycle. When standing water is detected, the code is triggered and the cycle is halted. The issue is most commonly related to a blocked or kinked drain hose, a dirty filter, or a failing drain pump.

It is not recommended to continue running the dishwasher while error 1-5 is active. The error means water is not draining correctly, and running additional cycles could cause water to overflow the tub. Address the drain issue before resuming normal use.

If the fix involves clearing a clogged hose or cleaning the filter, there may be no parts cost at all, with any expense limited to a service call fee if a technician is involved. Drain pump replacement typically adds parts and labor costs that can range from roughly $150 to $350 or more depending on the service provider and part pricing. Control board repairs or replacements tend to fall at the higher end of the repair cost range.

Start by checking the drain hose for kinks or clogs and confirm it is routed with a proper high loop or air gap. Next, remove and clean the drain filter and sump area. If the dishwasher connects to a garbage disposal, run the disposal and verify the knockout plug is removed. If those steps do not resolve the error, the drain pump may need to be tested and replaced.

A reset may temporarily clear the error display, but it will not resolve the underlying drain problem. If the drain path remains obstructed or the pump is faulty, the error will return as soon as the next drain cycle runs. The physical cause must be corrected first.
