Whirlpool Dryer Error Code F-50

F-50 means the machine control electronics detected no voltage at the water valve relay. This code only appears on steam-equipped Whirlpool dryer models and is only triggered during diagnostic test mode. It indicates a problem in the circuit that powers the steam water inlet valve. Normal drying functions may still work, but steam features will likely be inoperative.

A reset may clear the code temporarily, but F-50 only appears during diagnostic test mode rather than during a regular cycle. If the underlying issue with the water valve circuit is not corrected, the fault will return the next time diagnostics are run and steam function will remain impaired. Resetting alone is not a fix.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose wire connector, there is no parts cost and the repair can be done without a technician. If the steam water inlet valve needs replacement, parts typically range from $20 to $60 depending on the model. A failed machine control board is the most expensive scenario, with parts generally ranging from $100 to $300 or more, plus labor if a technician is needed.

Start by checking all wiring connections at the steam water inlet valve and at the water valve relay on the machine control board, reseating any connectors that are loose. If connections are secure, inspect the wiring harness for damage and test the water valve for proper operation. If those components check out, the machine control board may need to be evaluated. The dryer is generally safe to operate for standard drying cycles when showing F-50, since the code relates specifically to the steam water valve circuit. However, any steam-based cycle should be avoided until the fault is resolved, as the valve may not function correctly. If you notice any signs of water leaking near the dryer, stop use and inspect the water connections before continuing.
