Whirlpool Washer Error Code F26

F26 is a door switch error code on Whirlpool washers. It appears when the door has not been opened for three consecutive cycles, or when the door switch reads as open while the door lock is engaged for more than five seconds. The code only displays during a Diagnostic Test, but during normal operation the washer will beep three times to signal the fault.

If the fault was triggered simply because the door was not opened between consecutive cycles, opening the door and running a cycle will clear it without a full reset. If a component failure such as a bad door switch or damaged wiring is causing the fault, a reset alone will not resolve the issue and the code will return.

If only the door switch needs replacement, parts typically range from around $15 to $50 depending on the model, with labor adding to the total if a technician is hired. A door latch assembly replacement generally falls in the $20 to $70 range for parts. If the CCU is at fault, it is the most expensive repair, with parts costs typically ranging from $100 to $300 or more.

Start by opening and closing the door firmly, then run a Diagnostic Test or a normal wash cycle to see if the code clears. If it returns, inspect the door switch for continuity, check the latch assembly for damage, and examine the wiring harness between the switch and the CCU. During normal operation, the washer signals this fault with three beeps rather than halting the cycle, so the machine may continue running. However, if the door switch is genuinely faulty, the washer may not be properly confirming the door is secured, which is a safety concern.
