Frigidaire Washer Leaking?

A leaking Frigidaire washer needs quick attention to prevent water damage to floors and cabinets. Here’s how to identify the source of the leak.

Safety first

Turn off both water supply valves before inspecting hose connections. If the leak has been ongoing, check for mold on the floor or wall behind the washer. Persistent moisture in enclosed spaces can become a health issue.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

1
Check the door boot seal

On Frigidaire front-load washers, the rubber door boot (gasket) is the most common leak source. Inspect all the folds of the boot for tears, holes, or objects lodged in the rubber. Also check for mold or detergent buildup that might prevent the boot from sealing against the door glass.

2
Inspect the detergent dispenser

If water drips from the front of the machine during fill, the dispenser housing may be clogged with detergent residue. Pull out the dispenser drawer, clean it thoroughly, and clean the housing above it with warm water and a brush. Too much detergent also causes suds to push water out around the door seal.

3
Check the inlet hose connections

Inspect both water supply hoses at the back of the washer. Tighten any loose connections and check the rubber washers inside the hose fittings. Replace any hose that shows bulging, cracking, or corrosion at the fittings.

4
Examine the drain pump filter area

Open the small access door at the bottom front of the washer. If the drain filter cap is not fully tightened after cleaning, or if the cap’s rubber gasket is damaged, water will weep out during the cycle. Remove the cap, check the gasket, and re-seat it firmly.

5
Check the pressure switch hose

Frigidaire/Electrolux washers have a small rubber hose from the tub to the pressure switch. If this hose cracks or comes off, water can spray inside the machine and drip out the bottom. You can access it by removing the top panel of the washer (usually 2–3 screws at the back).

When to call a professional

If the leak is coming from underneath the washer and is accompanied by a loud rumbling during spin, the rear tub bearing seal has likely failed. On Frigidaire/Electrolux front-loaders, bearing replacement requires splitting the outer tub, which is a major repair. Get a cost estimate before proceeding — if the washer is over 8 years old, replacement may be more economical.
