What ER79 means on a Ariston oven
ER79 is a touch control fault code specific to Key6, one of the capacitive or inductive touch buttons on the oven's display board. The touch control panel uses inductive rubber contact pieces positioned beneath or against the glass surface to register button presses. When the control board detects an abnormal or unresponsive signal from the Key6 position, it logs this fault and may disable some or all touch functions to prevent erratic operation.
The most frequent trigger for ER79 is moisture or condensation on or near the touch panel. Steam generated during cooking can migrate toward the control area and disrupt the capacitive sensing circuit, causing the board to misread the Key6 input as a continuous press or a dead zone. This is why the first diagnostic step involves opening the oven door and allowing the panel to dry out completely before drawing any further conclusions.
If the fault persists after drying, the next inspection point is the physical condition of the inductive rubber pieces associated with Key6. These small rubber components act as the mechanical and electrical interface between the glass surface and the sensing circuitry. A missing, displaced, or degraded rubber piece will produce a permanent fault signal at that key position. If all rubber pieces are confirmed present and the error remains, the display board itself has developed an internal fault and requires replacement.

Common causes of ER79
- 01
Condensation or moisture on the touch panel
Wiring / connectionSteam from cooking can settle on or behind the touch control surface and disrupt the Key6 sensor signal. Opening the oven door and allowing the panel to dry completely often resolves this without any parts replacement.
- 02
Displaced or missing inductive rubber piece at Key6
Part replacementEach touch button relies on a small inductive rubber contact piece to transmit input to the board. If the rubber piece for Key6 has shifted out of position or is absent, the button will register a permanent fault.
- 03
Faulty display board
Part replacementIf moisture has been ruled out and all rubber pieces are confirmed present and correctly positioned, the sensing circuitry on the display board itself has likely failed and the board must be replaced.
- 04
Physical damage to the touch panel surface
Part replacementCracks, chips, or deep scratches over the Key6 area can interfere with the inductive sensing function. Inspect the glass or panel surface directly above the Key6 position for visible damage.
