Error code 25 on a Carrier HVAC system indicates an invalid motor or model selection. The system has determined that the motor size does not match the fan coil it is installed in, or that the fan coil model size data is missing. This fault prevents normal operation until the configuration is corrected or the motor is replaced with the proper size.

A simple power reset will not clear error code 25 because the fault is caused by a configuration mismatch or an incorrect motor, not a temporary communication glitch. The underlying issue, either missing model size data or an improperly sized motor, must be corrected before the error will clear. In fact, a reset may sometimes trigger this error if it wipes stored configuration data.

If the fix only requires re-entering the correct model size data through the User Interface, the cost is typically limited to a service call fee, which generally ranges from around $75 to $150 depending on your area. If the motor must be replaced, total costs including parts and labor typically range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the specific motor required and local labor rates.

If the cause is missing model size data, an installer or knowledgeable technician can resolve it by entering the correct fan coil model size through the User Interface when prompted. If the motor itself is the wrong size, a qualified HVAC technician will need to source and install the correct replacement motor. This is not a typical homeowner repair due to the need for accurate component matching.

Operating the system with error code 25 active is not recommended.
