Running the dishwasher with an active E5 fault is not recommended. The control board cannot accurately regulate water temperature without a functioning sensor, which could result in inadequate sanitization, overheating, or incomplete cycles. It is best to address the fault before resuming normal use.

Repair costs vary depending on the faulty component. Replacing the NTC thermistor is generally the least expensive fix, with parts typically ranging from $15 to $50 and labor adding $75 to $150 if a technician is hired. A control board replacement is significantly more costly, with parts alone ranging from $100 to $300 or more depending on the model.

Some causes of E5 are DIY-friendly, such as cleaning corroded connector pins or inspecting the wiring harness for visible damage.
