The flashing START LED on an Electrolux dishwasher means the door was opened while a cycle was running, causing the machine to pause. It is a notification state rather than an error or fault code. The dishwasher holds its place in the current cycle and waits for the door to be closed and the START button to be pressed before continuing.

Opening the door during a cycle is generally safe from a mechanical standpoint since the dishwasher pauses all operations immediately, but use caution. Hot steam and water can escape when the door is opened, especially during or after a heated wash or drying phase. Wait a few seconds after unlatching before pulling the door fully open.

If the flashing persists with the door properly closed, the issue is likely a faulty door latch assembly or door switch. Replacement door latch assemblies typically cost between $20 and $60 for parts, and a door switch generally runs between $15 and $40. Close the dishwasher door firmly until you hear the latch click, then press the START/CANCEL button.
