What BF means on a Electrolux dryer
The BF error code on an Electrolux dryer indicates a line safe sensing circuit failure. This circuit is responsible for monitoring the integrity of the incoming AC power lines, specifically detecting whether both legs of the 240-volt supply are present and within safe operating parameters. The main control board contains the sensing circuitry that continuously checks this condition, and when the board cannot confirm a valid signal from the line safe sensing loop, it throws the BF fault and halts operation to prevent unsafe conditions.
Because the line safe sensing circuit is integrated directly into the main control board, a failure in this circuit almost always points to a defective board rather than an external wiring problem. The sensing components, including the resistors, capacitors, and signal-processing traces that form the detection loop, are all part of the board assembly itself. When any of these internal components fail or a trace is damaged, the board loses its ability to read the line status correctly and generates the BF code.
From a diagnostic standpoint, the primary and typically only recommended corrective action is replacement of the main control board. Before replacing the board, a technician should verify that the dryer is receiving proper 240-volt power at the terminal block and that the supply wiring and outlet are not the source of the problem. If incoming power checks out correctly and the BF code persists, the main board is considered the faulty component and should be replaced.

Common causes of BF
- 01
Failed main control board
Part replacementThe line safe sensing circuit is built into the main control board, and internal component failure on the board is the primary cause of the BF code. Because the sensing circuitry cannot be repaired independently, the entire board must be replaced.
- 02
Damaged circuit board traces
Part replacementPhysical damage such as burn marks, cracked solder joints, or corroded traces on the main board can disrupt the line safe sensing loop and trigger the BF fault. Inspect the board visually for any signs of heat damage or corrosion.
- 03
Improper incoming voltage
Wiring / connectionAlthough less common, a loss of one leg of the 240-volt supply at the terminal block can cause abnormal readings in the sensing circuit. Verify both legs of the supply voltage at the dryer terminal block before condemning the board.
- 04
Loose or corroded wiring connections to the main board
Wiring / connectionLoose connectors or corroded terminals at the main board harness plugs can interfere with power delivery to the sensing circuit. Inspect all board connectors and reseat them firmly before proceeding to board replacement.
