Electrolux Oven Error Code BoLt

Boiler water loading timeout (EV5)

Boiler water loading timeout (EV5) - stops cycle if the cycle needs the boiler. No water supply, water low conductivity, cable disconnected, or teflon protection slipped.

First step from the service manual

Check water supply is open; check water pressure; check water conductivity (>50 us/cm); increase sensor sensitivity through parameter 379=IndL; check X25 on ACU.

What BoLt means on a Electrolux oven

The BoLt error code on an Electrolux oven indicates a boiler water loading timeout related to the EV5 valve. This error is generated when the control system attempts to fill the boiler with water during a cycle that requires steam or boiler function, but the boiler fails to reach the required water level within the allotted time. The appliance halts the cycle entirely to prevent dry-fire damage to the boiler heating element. The ACU (Appliance Control Unit) monitors water presence through a conductivity sensor, and if the sensor does not detect sufficient water conductivity, the timeout triggers and the BoLt code is displayed.

There are four primary root causes for this fault. First, the water supply itself may be interrupted or the inlet valve may be closed, preventing water from entering the system at all. Second, the incoming water may have very low mineral conductivity, measuring below 50 microsiemens per centimeter (us/cm), which causes the conductivity sensor to fail to register the water even when water is physically present. Third, the wiring harness connected to the boiler water sensor or EV5 valve may be disconnected or damaged, breaking the signal path to the ACU. Fourth, the Teflon protection sleeve on the conductivity sensor probe may have slipped out of position, altering the sensor's exposure and causing inaccurate readings.

Diagnosis should begin with confirming that the water supply valve is fully open and that inlet water pressure is adequate. Water conductivity should be measured and confirmed to exceed 50 us/cm. If water conductivity is borderline, sensor sensitivity can be increased by adjusting parameter 379 to the IndL setting in the ACU service menu. The connector at position X25 on the ACU should also be inspected for secure seating and signs of corrosion or damage.

Common causes of BoLt

  1. 01

Water supply closed or insufficient pressure

    Wiring / connection

If the water inlet valve supplying the oven is closed or water pressure is too low, the boiler simply cannot fill. Check that the supply valve is fully open and that water pressure at the connection point is adequate.

  2. 02

Low water conductivity below 50 us/cm

    Wiring / connection

The conductivity sensor requires water to measure above 50 microsiemens per centimeter to confirm the boiler is full. Softened, filtered, or naturally low-mineral water can fall below this threshold and cause a false timeout even when water is present. Sensor sensitivity can be increased via parameter 379 set to IndL in the ACU service menu.

  3. 03

Disconnected or damaged wiring to the sensor or EV5 valve

    Wiring / connection

A loose, corroded, or broken cable connecting the water level sensor or the EV5 fill valve to the ACU will prevent the control board from receiving fill confirmation. Inspect the wiring harness and check connector X25 on the ACU for secure seating.

  4. 04

Slipped Teflon protection sleeve on the conductivity sensor

    Wiring / connection

The conductivity sensor probe is protected by a Teflon sleeve that positions it correctly within the boiler. If this sleeve has slipped, the probe may not make proper contact with the water, causing the sensor to report no water even when the boiler contains sufficient liquid. Visually inspect the probe and reposition the sleeve if necessary.

  5. 05

    Faulty EV5 water inlet valve

    Part replacement

If the EV5 solenoid valve is defective and fails to open, water cannot enter the boiler regardless of supply pressure. If all external checks pass and the wiring is intact, the EV5 valve itself may need to be tested for continuity and replaced.

Frequently asked questions about BoLt

What does BoLt mean on a Electrolux oven?
The BoLt code means the boiler water loading process timed out before the boiler reached the required water level. The oven stopped the current cycle to prevent damage to the boiler heating element. Causes include a closed water supply valve, water with very low mineral conductivity, a disconnected sensor cable, or a misaligned Teflon sensor sleeve. Checking the water supply and inlet connections is the recommended first step.
Can I fix the BoLt error myself without a technician?
Several causes of the BoLt error are accessible to a knowledgeable DIYer. Confirming the water supply valve is open, checking water pressure, and testing water conductivity with an inexpensive meter are straightforward tasks. Inspecting connector X25 on the ACU and repositioning a slipped Teflon sensor sleeve are also feasible if you are comfortable accessing the interior of the appliance. However, adjusting service parameters such as parameter 379 or replacing the EV5 valve may require technical familiarity with the control system.
Is it safe to continue using my oven when the BoLt error is showing?
The oven stops the affected cycle automatically when the BoLt code appears, which protects the boiler from running dry. Dry-firing the boiler heating element can cause permanent damage. You should not attempt to bypass the error or force a boiler-dependent cycle to run until the underlying cause has been identified and corrected.
How much does it cost to repair the BoLt error on an Electrolux oven?
If the fix is simply opening a water supply valve or adjusting a sensor parameter, there may be no parts cost at all, though a service call to adjust ACU parameters typically runs in the range of $80 to $150. If the EV5 water inlet valve requires replacement, parts and labor combined generally range from $150 to $350 depending on your location and service provider. More complex wiring harness repairs can push costs higher.
Will resetting the oven clear the BoLt error code?
A power reset may temporarily clear the BoLt code, but the error will return as soon as the oven attempts to run a boiler-dependent cycle again if the root cause has not been resolved. Resetting without fixing the underlying issue, such as low water conductivity or a disconnected sensor cable, will not prevent the timeout from recurring. Permanent resolution requires diagnosing and correcting the specific cause.
