The Etb error code on an Electrolux oven indicates that the boiler safety switch, designated as TSB, has been triggered, halting the current cycle. This safety switch is a protective component within the steam boiler system that activates when it detects conditions that could damage the boiler or create a hazard. When TSB trips, the appliance control unit (ACU) registers the fault and stops operation until the underlying condition is resolved and the switch is reset.

The most frequent cause of this fault is an absence of water in the boiler, which causes the heating element to overheat and triggers the thermal safety switch. Closely related is limestone or limescale accumulation inside the boiler, which insulates the heating element and prevents proper heat transfer, leading to the same overheating response. A third hardware-related cause is incorrect insertion of the temperature control (TC) probe, which can cause the system to misread boiler temperature and operate outside safe parameters. Additionally, if the BOT parameter is configured too high in the control system settings, the boiler may be commanded to reach a temperature beyond what the safety switch permits.

Diagnosis begins with resetting the safety switch to clear the trip condition and observing whether the fault returns immediately. If it does, the boiler should be descaled using an appropriate descaling procedure before further testing. The technician should also inspect connector X7 on the ACU, as this connection carries signals between the boiler safety circuit and the control board. A damaged safety thermostat or a persistently tripped switch that cannot be reset indicates component failure requiring part replacement.
